Melbourne Wedding at Melbourne Museum
Janice || Luca
When a charming Singaporean and a dapper Italian meet and fall in love in the land down under. This is Janice and Luca’s story - two different cultures sharing the one thing that matters, their love for each other.
It’s my first time being at a wedding with a lot of Italians and all I can say is that the stereotypes are true. Their vast knowledge of food, their good sense of style, their expressive hands, their melodious (some would argue loud) voices, and their passionate attitude towards many things.
A far contrast with many Asian cultures where people are usually quite reserved. What surprised me the most though was the “Yam Seng” tradition! It seems the Singaporeans gave the Italianos a good run for their money.
Yam Seng, the Chinese version of cheers, is a Cantonese phrase literally translated as “drink to victory”. You yell out and hold the word “yam” for as long you can til you run out of breath before ending it with a short “seng” with everyone ending at the same time.
Yaaaaaaaaaammmm, seng!
